I’ve never had a tarot reading before. What should I expect?

Every reader is going to bring a unique flavor to the experience, just as every read is going to be a bit different. When you work with me, a visit will go something like this: We’ll settle in with some tea or water and spend a few minutes going over the question(s) you’ve brought to the table. I will then briefly ground my energy and check in with my body and my channels. Then I’ll shuffle and pull the cards for our reading. I’ll give my impressions on what comes up for me, and we’ll spend the rest of our time exploring how the cards and my impressions interweave with your own feelings. There will be lots of space for you to ask questions and dive into specific cards, should you feel inclined. My studio is private and quiet, and we can work without fear of interruption.

Where does the Tarot come from?

There is no definitive answer for this, as it’s hard to trace back the lineage with one hundred percent accuracy. The beginnings of the Tarot as we know it were first recorded in the Middle Ages, though the cards were used solely by aristocracy at the time due to the prohibitive cost of printing. The Rider-Waite-Smith deck , which is arguably the most well known tarot deck, was published in 1909. The art was drawn by Pamela Colman Smith under the direction of the mystic A.E. White, and was published by the Rider company.

The cards themselves describe the cycle of the human experience, from the reckless possibility in The Fool to the heartbreak woven through the Swords suit, to the trauma inherent in The Tower, these cards are reflections of each and every one of us.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for 48 hours notice. However, I know how surprising life can be, and I am willing to work with anyone who is respectful of my time.

Do you offer classes?

I have an online course that is in the beginning stages of development, as well as in-person offerings that will be available soon.

Is this for real?

There are many ways to approach the Tarot, including the path of skepticism. I believe that regardless of where you start when you embark on this journey, the cards will have messages. Whether one is available to hear those messages or not depends entirely on the individual. I have experienced deeply resonant and insightful readings with my cards, and with other practitioners. These experiences have solidified my personal belief that the Tarot is more that just pretty pictures on cardstock.

Can you tell me who I’m going to marry? When I’ll die? Etc.

While the Tarot does give us a lot of information about what the future may hold, I personally don’t work the cards in a strongly divinatory fashion. The approach I’ve found more useful is one of peering into the depths of the energies at work, how they are effecting a situation, and how I can best work with them. I receive guidance on what might manifest on the path, and how I and my clients can best engage with it. This maintains an integral sense of agency for everyone involved. The cards do not, in my experience, forecast the future. Rather, they draw a map by which we can steer our course.

Do i need to have a specific question?

While having a question can help clarify the reading, it isn’t necessary. If you’d rather look for general guidance, or keep your question to yourself, there is still much that can be gained from getting a reading. The images on the cards and the energy they carry will speak, regardless.

What is your Background?

I’ve been working with the Tarot since I was about 13, on and off. My knowledge of the cards has come from a variety of sources, most notably from developing my own intuition and experiencing the cards firsthand. I have also drawn a lot of depth and deeper understanding from working with Lindsay Mack of Tarot for the Wild Soul.

What decks do you use?

Currently I use the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, as well as the Wildwood Tarot. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions on either deck, or would like to explore working with a deck of your own.
